Onmyo Magic (陰陽道, Onmyodō) is a form of Fujutsu based on casting advanced spells using paper talisman enchanted with the caster's Soul Wavelength. Each spell is triggered by a specific incantation which releases one or multiple of the five elements from the talisman in a variety of forms. Shamans who specialize in Onmyo Magic are known as Onmyoji or Mages.
History[]
For centuries Shaman have been using paper talisman to ward off evil spirits. They discovered by manipulating the energies of Yin and Yang, they could conjure spells that could combat Yokai. In the past, more often than not, Onmyo Magic only capable of warding off spirits rather than exorcising them altogether. As Shamans began to grow more powerful, so to did Onmyo magic. In the present age of Shamans, Onmyoji are among the most consistently powerful Shaman due to the necessity of Onymodo when it comes to fighting Yokai.
Mechanics[]
Shamans can enchant any type of paper they choose to utilize as a talisman by projecting their Soul Wavelength onto it. This is done by writing an incantation on the paper, which can be achieved through a variety of methods. A completed inscription draws from the power of the user's soul, which in turn allows them to use magical abilities.
A talisman is not fully activated until the user recites the respective incantation to their inscription. Once the incantation is complete, the magical power from within the talisman manifests in the form of a spell. The power of an Onmyodō Spell depends on the spiritual fortitude of its user. A power Onmyoji can make even the weakest of spells into a devastating attack.
Incantations[]
Abandoned Incantation: By shortening or forgoing the incantation all together, a spell can be casted much faster, but at the expense of its effectiveness. While anyone well versed in Onmyo Magic can use this technique, it is most effective when done by a skilled practitioner, otherwise, the spell could utterly fail (e.g. explode in the user's face). The most skilled Onmyoji are capable of using this technique to amazing effect.
Two Fold Incantation: The opposite of an Abandoned Incantation. By mixing the incantations of two separate spells, the user can mix the effect of the different magics to create a new spell that is twice as effective.
